My Speech: Should animals be used in the circus? By Fine

My speech on: Should animals be kept in the circus? By Fine
Circuses with animal acts might seem perfect and jubilant, but if you looked beneath their bright lights and happy music, torture and death is the only thing found. Almost everyday animals are being put into cages and abused just to learn the ways ofa stunt. Why should they be kept away from their homes, lives and families. Why do people hunt down animals just to put them into their entertainment?

Even during shows, bullhooks can be found hidden beneath jewels and cloth. They disguise these weapons so that they may use them during shows, but hide them, so the public won't have a clue. Trainers use whips, tight collars, muzzles, electric prods, bullhooks and much more. Did you know that some animals have ropes tied around their necks, so if they disobey their trainers, they will be choked. Trainers also burn bears paws and break their noses forcing the bears to stand on their hind legs. Trainers also beat up monkeys and chimpanzees while they scream.

As a result of not having a lot of money, circus operations will frequently not give their animals enough water, food,  clean their cages properly or give them medical care when needed. Animals die just because of this.

According to the Animal Welfare Act, 96 percent of a circus animal’s life is spent in chains or cages. 66 per cent of tigers and lions were starved to death. Between 1994 - 2005, 31 elephants died premature deaths. 33 per cent of wildcats such as tigers and lions did not have access to the outside world and did not have a natural habitat. All wild animals are very frightened of seeing cages and chains. Animals spend about 11 months travelling, during travelling, animals are caged and chained for long distances and hours through extreme temperatures.

This is the life behind the magic. Believe it or not,but animal cruelty doesn't just happen in circuses. If you love animals, you should take a visit to the zoo, where they are taken care of and have a proper habitat. You could also visit circuses without animal acts like Cirque Du Soleil. If everyone stopped abusing animals then life would be much easier. So stop!!

My Netbook Reflection By Fine

Netbook Reflection 2013

How has having a netbook connected to the internet helped my learning this year?

Can you tell us about something you have discovered and learnt by yourself this year?
This year I have learnt how to create a prezi by myself. A prezi is a site where you can put down steps on how to complete something for example instructions on how                             to make a sandwich easy as that. Once I had finished I shared it onto my blog by embedding a code. Then I wrote an interpretation on what a prezi is and how i created it. I learnt how to create a prezi at home during the holidays, because continuing school work on the holidays will help you improve with getting to the national standard.

What special thing have you learnt from your teacher this year?
My teacher Miss Paton showed me how to create a floorplan of our ideal classroom using the website floorplanner. This website helps people who are wanting to renovate or decorate their room or house. Floorplanner has a lot of objects that you can choose to have inside your room for example couches, chairs and much more. There is a place at the top of the site letting you have the option of choosing your room to be 2D or 3D. You can create your room with a birds eye view. Using a bird’s eye view helped me by seeing where all the objects are. After I had finished my floorplan Miss Paton printed it out and put it on our classroom wall. Something I liked about floorplan is there are variety of colours and options of furniture you can choose. When visitors come inside Room 5 they can see my floorplan and also other classmates floorplans. First we had made a draft on paper making sure we knew what we wanted in our ideal classroom.

What have you learnt from someone outside of your classroom this year
This year I showed my brother Leopote a website called Sumdog. Sumdog helps your learning with Maths. He has increased his learning with Maths since the last time he had gone on Sumdog or had completed a maths activity. Sumdog is a virtual site where you can have your own avatar.

How have you helped other kids learn this year?
This year I helped a few of Room 5’s  year 5 classmates. I helped them create a blog post. A blog post is when one of our students put one of their pieces of work on display to show the whole world. A blog post would go on their individual blog to showcase to the world. You can see which countries have showcased your work by looking at the top of my blog or on the side.

Fine and Angel's Statistical Investigation: Ethnicities in Room 5

My partner Angel & I worked on our Statistical Investigation today. The whole class were given instructions on how to complete a Statistical Investigation properly. The least amount of Ethnicities in room 5 are Kiribati, Chinese, Burmese, and Afghani. The most amount of students ethnicity is Maori. I think that there are more Maori students in room 5 because Maori's are Native To New Zealand. There were a total of 12 Maori students in Room 5. There is 1 Kiribati, Chinese, Afghani and Burmese student in Room 5.

Voyage of Exploration Fine's Reading Follow up task

Sapphire Group
Title: Voyage of Exploration
Connected 2012

Learning Intention
I am learning to find information in the text
I am learning to link prior knowledge and experiences to the texts I read

Comprehension Questions

1. What are the NIWA Scientists doing?
The NIWA scientists spy on a mysterious world teeming with strange life.

2. Why is there a camera on the ship?
The camera helps the NIWA scientists discover new animals and new plants under water.

3. Describe the seabed
The sea bed looks like fine, brittle stalks, growing in clumps. FIshers call it the wire weed. But this is no weed. Each stalk is actually a hollow tube, built by the worm that lives inside it.

4. What is the weed and how does it support other sea life?
The weed is called the seabed, fishers call it the wire weed. The worm meadow that lives inside the seabed supports a whole range of life. Young sea perch dart in and out. Sea quiets attach themselves to the wire weed and filter the water passing through their own bodies, drawing out small particles of food from it.

5. Describe the feather stars
Walking feather stars retract their arms when disturbed.

6. What new information has been gained from the voyage?
The voyage has found new information about the habitats and distributions of many different species, including species we didn’t even know existed.

7. What is the DTIS?
DITS is to explore the world beneath the waves. DITS is short for Deep Towed Imaging System.

8. How does the DTIS work and why use it?
The DTIS works at a very slow pace, allowing the system’s cameras to capture images of any marine life.

9. Describe the process in sorting the animals.
The technicians who work with the scientists divide the animals and plants into groups or piles ( each plant and animal will have its own pile or group).

10. What is a taxonomist?
A taxonomist is a biologist who specialises in classifying organisms

11. Why classify the animals?

Because the scientists are better to understand different, how they function, and how they work together in the ecosystem.

Our Swamp Presentation By Fine and Angel

My instructions on how to create a Friedrich Vordemberge Gildewart Painting By Fine

Title:
Instructions on how to create a Friedrich Vordemberge Gildewart painting : Composition NO
Equipment:
* Example of Friedrich Vordemberge Gildewart painting : Composition NO.
*A2 size blank paper
* 1 x 30 cm ruler
* 1 HB pencil
* Eraser
* Different shades of paint - three
* 2 paintbrushes - 1 thick brush & 1 thin brush.
* Old t - shirt ( optional)

Instructions:
1. Plot dots on every 5 cm horizontally on your A2 paper.

2. Place your ruler horizontally against the dots to make a line , now slowly drag your pencil against your ruler to make one big line. Keep doing this, and it should create your lines horizontally across the page.

3.  Plot dots on every 5 cm vertically.

4. Place your ruler vertically against the dots to make a line, now slowly drag your pencil against your ruler to make one big line. Keep doing this, and it should make lines vertically across yor page.

5. Number your boxes so you can use your coordinates. The numbers should be  on the border of your grid, vertically and horizontally. Horizontally the numbers should be up to 11 and vertically it should go up to 8.

6. Starting off will be hard , but to help you use the coordinates I will help you draw the first shape. From (1,3) vertically to (1,4) horizontally, draw your line to make one big triangle.WARNING:Remember these coordinates are at the top left corner.

7.Drawing the next triangle it will be much easier. From there (2,4,) draw the line straight down, this triangle should be inside the triangle we just drew.
WARNING: Remember these coordinates are at in the top left corner, but inside the triangle we just finished.

8. Drawing this triangle won’t be as easy as the last but I’m pretty sure you will be able to finish it. First, you will have to measure ( 7, 2) and then rule it straight down to make a triangle. ( You will also have to draw an outline).
WARNING: Remember these coordinates should make a triangle in the bottom left hand corner.
9.  Make another triangle but bigger than the last few ones. the coordinates should be from (5, 8) vertically and (8, 11) horizontally.

WARNING: Remember these coordinates should make a triangle in the bottom right hand corner.

10. Draw another triangle. These coordinates should be from (8, 9 ).
WARNING: Remember to draw this triangle inside the triangle we just drew.

11. Draw all of the coordinates, you should be able to do the rest.

12. Use your eraser to lightly erase the grid lines once you have finished.
WARNING: Remember not to erase you lines that you are going to paint in.

13. Pick your 3 acrylic colours you are going to use.
WARNING: Remember one of your acrylic colours has to be  white.

14. Paint the three darkest areas on your paper.

15. Continue painting shapes, but they have to be the same shade.
WARNING: Remember to add white throughout all your shades.

16. Paint the shapes outside using a different colour. Use your third acrylic paint to paint the outside shape
WARNING: Remember to your third colour has to be a colour that will stand out.

17. Now, you can do touch ups in case your artwork looks rough.

18. Spray your artwork with hairspray to give it that sparkling look.

Fine's Volcano Report

Our Volcano Report
By Fine

A volcano is an opening in the Earth’ s surface. Did you know that the word volcano originally comes from the greek myth, The God of fire, Vulcan.

An erupting volcano can trigger tsunamis, flash floods, earthquakes, mud flows and rockfalls.Fiery mountains are places where magma has reached the surface and new rock is created. When Tectonic plates move it causes eruptions.

Mount Edgecumbe
Its English name was given by Captain James Cook on 2nd November 1769 after Sergeant Edgecumbe who was the sergeant of marines on his vessel. The mountain rises to 820 m above sea level.Located 50 km east of Rotorua and three kilometres east of Kawerau.

Should Panmure Bridge School have a cafeteria? By Fine

Should P.B.S have a cafeteria?

Introduction:
Pies, sandwiches, apples, kiwis, YUMMY! Obviously Panmure Bridge School should have a cafeteria, but I’m still wondering why we don’t. This is my argument on why Panmure Bridge School should have a cafeteria.

Argument idea 1: Healthy food
If Panmure Bridge School were to have a cafeteria or a tuck shop, students would be much healthier than they are right now because our cafeteria would have the healthy tick. The Healthy tick would provide food which is healthy. Students would get food that is delicious but at the same time nutritious.

Argument idea 2: Jobs
Secondly , if Panmure Bridge were to have a cafeteria, it could give someone in the community a job or if students are helping at the cafeteria, they could learn how to divide money, cook or give back change.

Argument idea 3: Thinking straight
Thirdly, if every student were to buy food from the cafeteria, every child in the school would not be hungry during the day, and they would be able to think straight.

Conclusion:
Overall, three main ideas are mentioned in my argument for why Panmure Bridge school should have a cafeteria. Firstly, healthier food would be provided for the students at Panmure Bridge. Secondly, having a cafeteria could give someone or a student in the community a job and thirdly, when you eat food from the cafeteria you wouldn’t be hungry all day and you would be able to think straight. Those are my main reasons for why Panmure Bridge School should have a cafeteria.☺

Fine's Fractions Wall

A fractions wall can help me see which fractions are bigger and helps me with maths equations for example : Which is bigger 1/6 or 1/9? If you looked at the fraction wall you could easily see that 1/6 is bigger than 1/9.

Fine's floor plan of the ideal classroom

This is my ideal classroom. I would like an Art Area because if a student spilt paint / dye on the ground, they wouldn't get in trouble. This is my ideal classroom because it has a lot of space and there are things that Room 5 doesn't have in our classroom. A reading room would come handy, if you want to read a book but the classroom is loud. The desks that I have in my ideal classroom are different shapes, so students can choose a variety of desks to sit in. We have aquariums, so students can have responsibility in looking after a school pet. If you go to the top right corner and press 3D my Ideal Classroom will turn into 3D!!
